Flying Solo!

Image
Previously on “Crazy Corrie’s Chronicles”… *see link to “Oh the Irony…” As promised, MORE tedious details of my trips you probably don’t care to know! Mount Vernon farm - definitely worth checking out! :) My most recent trip was SOLO!! Yeah, that’s right – it was CrAzY! A “match group”, two smaller schools combined to form a larger group – thereby decreasing the cost. But still, they didn't even fill one coach bus. Two thirds of the group came from the Chicago area & the other third from southern California. I loved both groups!! They couldn't have been more different and at first they didn't really mix, but by the end of the week (so like camp) everyone was friends! I have to be honest: I truly loved being the lead! Yes, it is a lot more responsibility, but I thrive on that! Thinking on my feet; sneaking peaks at my map when the kids weren't looking; reading plaques (the kids NEVER read the plaques) & acting like I know everythi...

My world's been rocked!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled programming to bring you this important news bulletin: Dr. Matt Olson is leaving Northland International University. This news could be likened to the emotion of watching your favorite television series year after year only to find out that your favorite leading character won't be returning in the fall - the actor's contract won't be renewed. Or,  like the Doctor's regeneration: you know the next Doctor will be grand but he's not *your Doctor! I don't question the sovereignty of God in the life of our "Dad" MO, but I don't deny that I find it difficult to imagine a N-land without the Godly, transparent leadership of Dr. Olson. Having graduated several years ago, I've been removed from the college and its student body, but that doesn't mean that it's removed itself from me! The words of wisdom & example of humble Christ-likeness I received (from especially Dr. Olson) will follow me to my grave. S...

Too much time

I realize that a great many of my readers and friends have been asking themselves the question, "seriously, what does that girl do with all of her time?" So to clarify and perhaps redeem myself (not likely), I present exhibits both A and B to speak on my behalf. Exhibit A: Hamburger cupcakes  I made these adorable lil' guys for my church's youth group for the initiation of our current study: "The Blessed Burger" (Pastor Ryan's visual analogy for Matthew 5). Made from vanilla cupcakes, chocolate brownies, & a slathering of dyed frosting. Exhibit B: Doctor Who TARDIS shirt  In addition to edible art, I have applied myself to the endless possibilities for wearable art! Note this incredibly beautiful (i.e. geeky) shirt made from a soon-to-be-donated-to-Good-Will black T & a Clorox spray bottle - then of course enhanced with acrylic paint & an old toothbrush.      Alright, well, I of course have also been studying, watchi...

The Rising

Well, I'm sure you are all dying to know how my first trip with ACTS went. Allow me to elaborate. Flying from Midway airport, Chicago to Baltimore/Washington airport, Maryland, I arrived on the east coast at approximately 4pm est, February 24th. With little knowledge and no experience, I couldn't have been greener; nor could I have been more relieved to find that the group (flying from Wisconsin) was delayed - giving me the opportunity to absorb as much information from the other seasoned tour guide as we waited for an hour at baggage claim. Much that I had imagined and assumed concerning the trip was quickly dispelled by my more informed co-guide, Traci. I had hoped that I would be riding along with her on a single bus with the purpose of learning from the best; however, the group was a "two bus move" - aka, I would be responsible for a bus *by myself! One thought that had consoled me as I had fervently studied up on US & Washington D.C. history back home and mom...

Musings of a Single Girl on Valentine's Day (It's not as pathetic as it sounds!)

Image
Okay, so I'm a big Disney nerd, in case you didn't know already. However, I cannot say that I recommend their philosophy of love. I present my case: Would someone, please, answer these Questions that confuse me! On Mr. Right, please, shed some light For rather obtuse me... How will I know him without his white steed? Will he know who I am if I’m no girl in need? If he’s not in a cape, how’ll I know if he’s brave? If I’m not in distress, how’ll he know who to save? If he can’t wield a sword is he scratched off my list? If my father says no, should I pout and insist? Will he always give flowers or just blow a kiss? If he wakes me from slumber will our lives end in bliss? If I fall for a guy whose face is a fright, Will he somehow turn handsome one magical night? If my hair’s super long, will that draw him to me? Or should I sing really loud off a high balcony? I thought this’d be easy: ha, what a hoot! I have to kiss frogs and eat poi...

The spawn of boredom

Image
Closed... ...open! Okay, like I said, my fits of boredom have resulted in long intervals of, shall we say, distractedness? The outcome of which may arguably be less than beneficial. But I submit that there are circumstances, however few, when I can look back with pride at my accomplishments in those periods of not-doing-what-I'm-supposed-to. Take for instance my sweet action Google Nexus case I hand-crafted!! Not only is it wicked sick, but it cost me a mere $2.38!! I know, crazy crafts are my thing, but I surprised even myself with that one! Inspiration: Alex Kingston as River Song In addition to crafting when I have nothing better to do, a far more dangerous past time occasionally compels me to take up a pair of scissors: I cut my hair. I have a lot of hair to work with but fear brought on by past mistakes restrains me from going *too crazy! For months now, I have been OBSESSED with Alex Kingston's (River Song from  Doctor Who ) hair. I thi...

Perfect in Weakness...

In case any of you were wondering – I’m going insane! I know most of you believed me to have arrived already, but I assure you my state continues to worsen! Talking to myself has been superseded by laughing constantly at my own jokes (I really am hilarious!). My evenings of educational movie watching have degraded to a YouTube obsession (hour after hour of Doctor Who confidential & video diaries mostly!).   Infrequent boredom fits have been known to escalate into hours (days) of spontaneous cleaning and organizing. My once disciplined & focused mind has been replaced with the ADHD mind of a four-year old! The lack of social engagement (limited to 5 hours a week – all at church) has truly taken its toll! I question whether or not I will ever again be able to function “normally” - least of which includes shaking the British accent which of course is all that’s used around the house (with an occasional switch to Scottish or Yorkshire). LOTR pic from Adam Cabrera :) ...
